Adjustable Width
“How much has your weight changed over the past five years?”
The challenge with conventional chairs is that once a rider is fit to his ideal
wheelchair width, he must maintain his weight until eligible for his next
wheelchair under his insurance plan (typically five plus years). It would be
reasonable to assume that most people will experience weight fluctuations over a
five-year period. It is both reasonable and predictable to expect that someone
with a spinal cord injury to experience muscle atrophy, which also has a profound
effect on the size of a wheelchair that will allow for healthy.
As a result, conventional chairs are often ordered wider than necessary out of fear; Fear that a weight gain would leave the rider with a chair too small to fit. In the past the rider had to sacrifice mobility (e.g. shoulders that are not properly aligned with wheels) and maneuverability (e.g. smaller chairs fit through smaller doorways and aisles) to assure their chair would fit during the entire duration of their insurance funding cycle.
Having a Marvel Wheelchair with its unique width adjustment capability (infinite
width adjustability from 12-16 or 14-18 inches) answers this challenge. A rider can have a chair fit for today that can also adapt to inevitable weight changes
